Prepare your laptop for the Festival

As you know, the Georgia Student Media Festival could not happen without your interest and support. We are asking that counties assist us by bringing laptops to help judge projects. This has helped to make the judging process a tremendous success! Here's a checklist of items that should help you to prepare your computer(s) for success at the festival:
  • Working Laptop with Power Supply – make sure computer is labeled with County and name of judge who will be responsible for equipment
  • Identify in advance if you will be bringing Mac or PC laptop - Respond to Gordon Baker's email request for judges
  • Working CD-Rom Drive
  • Working DVD Drive (this capability will definitely be needed for DVD stations)
  • Microsoft PowerPoint – should be version 2000 or higher
  • Windows Media Player – Click here to download the latest version in advance
  • Quicktime Movie Player – Click here to download the latest version in advance
  • RealPlayer – Click here to download the latest version in advance
  • Java (latest updates) – Click here to download the latest version in advance

Optional, but suggested

  • Download and add a shortcut to PhotoStory 3 – Click here to download the latest version in advance
  • Add a shortcut on desktop to Windows Movie Maker (Windows laptops) or iMovie (Mac laptops)
  • Download the Microsoft Office 2007 Converter Pack to be able to open projects saved in Office 2007 formats - Click here to download
  • Download a copy of Scratch - Click here to download
  • Download a copy of Alice - Click here to download
  • Let us know if you have any specialty software loaded that may be used for student projects (i.e. KidPix, HyperStudio, etc.)
  • Be prepared to bring a laptop with the specialty software loaded to GSMF in case we have difficulty opening the project, especially Mac projects
